It was a great race, we all had fun but G's car was out mid way through the event.

November Blessing #12

Last night I took the Cub Scouts to our county Veteran's Memorial.

We took paper and crayons to making rubbings of the names. 

We found out that it's not the fallen veteran's

 of our county but all the veterans. 

So little G found our neighbor Bob's name.

 He thought that was too Cool.

I'm thankful and blessed to work with the cub scouts.

 I know this could be my last night with them as a Den Leader

 and I'm so glad I could go out with a blast. 

They think anything is a blast but a fieldtrip is always a highlight!

Cub Scout Wednesday

First of all I forgot to post last week's fun.

We played family games, we started with Uno attack and finished it off with some great games of Spoons!

This week, we were all about fitness. First we let them play tag, some of them even got some leg wrestling in (that's always funny to watch).

Then we moved into the gym, were my den assistant (a personal trainer) led them in exercises, most of them were wimpy! We then played around the world. This little bunch of boys never get to just play basketball in the gym. They felt like 'big stuff' when we had to keep telling the bigger boys to get out, it was the cub's turn!

This week was our first time back together since our July Activity

We started out with learning how to leg wrestle, then played a few rounds of Frisbee Golf and ended the night with a game of kick ball.

#4Day and final day at Day Camp

it's done, it's over ....

DayCamp #2

Today is was warm (85) and windy again. I had watched the weather man and he said it was to start raining at the camp site around 3 to 4, BUT when I picked the boys up this morning there was a mother that said it was to start raining there around 1! (Different weather man Different story). Fortunetly, my weather man was right on the money ..... when we left camp is was bright and sunny and 85 but when we pulled in to the church (to drop off boys) 40 minutes later it was pouring cats and dogs and 64 degrees!

I thought the activities at camp were more exciting today. Yesterday they were sort of boring and there was alot of down time, but not today.

Survived Day 1 of cub scout day camp!

Actually it wasn't too bad.

It was warm (very warm),

93 but low humidity, sunny and very windy!

In the shade it was actually very nice.

I made sure the AC was on at home so I could have a rapid cool off!

Cub Scouts ~ Ciaos

Tomorrow, Little G starts cub Scout Day camp! The lady that was planning it all totally dropped the ball, (well she had all the paper work done but nothing else) by the time I walked into church today ~ there were 4 frantic ladies and a disillusioned man searching for me. I don't really know why ~ I didn't know anything but they must have thought I did.

Let the Ciaos begin ~
One hour later ~ I had it all planned and a list of things to do ~ I have to say that I'm good at whipping things together at the last minute BUT I really don't like to do that! I'd really rather either not be involved at all or be in charge from the very beginning... OH, well neither of those happened today.

I can say that the boys will never know the difference and they'll have a ball.

Now let the organized Ciaos begin .......

Cub Scout Wednesday

This will be the last Cub Scout Wednesday for the summer!

What a relief!

Tonight the weather finally cooperated for a hike. So we left the church headed north on a gravel road and picked up trash (remember the theme, "Leave no footprint"). Actually it was the perfect night, nice gentle breeze, nice temperature, and the right amount of trash!

We even met "Cruise" the biggest Chocolate lab we'd ever seen, but he was ever so friendly. His owner wasn't too pleased with him BUT we kept walking back and forth in front of his house until he was lured away by a doggie treat!

I'm afraid our little cubs got a lesson in all the different names of beer, by our picking up trash. By the time we were almost done, they were having a contest to see what brand would be found next.... I'm afraid Bud Light won!

We gathered 4 grocery bags of trash.

Cub Scout Wednesday

Yea, the rain has held off , or at least this far (I suppose it could down pour in the next 3 hours). This is the Prairie ya know ... I should be able to see the rain'a comin'.

Tonight we're going fishin' ! and boy are they excited. One of the cubs over heard me setting things up (with the owner of the pond) at church on Sunday. The word travel through the church and the cubs like wild fire. It's the difference between little boys and a 40 something woman.... I would have liked to see rain (it's only an hour, I can watch 5 little boys fish and untangle fishin' line for an hour), and they think I'm giving them the moon! They are so excited!

Do you think I'll have time to teach them the Andy and Opie whistle song?

UPDATE ~ the boys had a blast ... they caught a total of 4 fish. Everybody wanted to catch a fish but my smallest (and youngest) cub wanted it so badly. He went the hour getting small little nibbles but no fish UNTIL we were packing up to leave. They were goofy off, just casting in the shallow edge when he caught a fish!

Cub Scout Wednesday

There won't be any cub scouts tonight.

This month's theme is "Leave no Footprints" , during this month we'll work on pickup litter, taking hikes, and going fishing.... All outside things.

Right now it's like a swamp EVERYWHERE around here with more rain to come this afternoon, so it seemed to me that we'd be leaving alot of muddy footprints INSIDE if I tried to have cub scouts! Keeping my finger's crossed for good dry weather next week!

Cub scout Wednesday

This week was the pack meeting. The boys displayed the things that they'd been working on, their Dino hats, their fossils, and then they made their volcanoes erupt.

I had worried that the boys wouldn't think it was fun to make their volcanoes erupt but it doesn't take much for the boys to be entertained. As I walked in 2 of the boys came running up asking if I'd brought the stuff for the volcanoes. We even added food coloring to the mixture so they had their own individual touch on the eruption!

Cub Scout Wednesday .....

Tonight we are finishing up our Jurassic theme... putting the finishing touches on our Dino hats, looking at how our fossils (from last week) turned out and then putting the finishing touches on our volcanoes.

I made the volcanoes ... or maybe I should call them Mount Solo ... out of solo cups, with a film canister in the bottom filled with plaster paris. I needed to make them early so they'd be dry by tonight. When I cut the cups off of the plaster paris there was the 'solo' logo going right up the side of Mount Solo (hence the name) tonight the boys will paint the lava streams on them and we'll cause them to erupt! Baking soda and vinegar with a touch of red food coloring for effect!

The weather is good so this will be a perfect night to be outside again.... I'd better go and make sure I find and get the paint brushes in the van! I don't think painting with felt again will be good!

Cub Scout Wednesday

I know this is a late Wednesday BUT it's still here.

Remember last week we put paper mache on a balloon.

This week we took the harden paper mache off of the balloon and painted them green.

I forgot the paint brushes at home, so we had to use our good ol' cub scout spirit and paint with little felt circles. It was an experience for them to get their fingers dirty AGAIN but they were better at it this time (I'm making head way with them). We'll paint the details on these next week also.

When they finished painting we made plaster paris fossil beds. I poured the plaster paris into trays and they put shells in it and made dinosaur tracks in it (with toy dinosaurs) and other things.

The weather was good so we did all this outside!

By the way, my van is now a cub scout van (or at least until I get it cleaned out). We put all the stuff in it after we were done.

Cub Scout Wednesday

Tonight we started a month long project of making Dinosaurs Hats.

Our project started with paper mache balloons. You would have thought I'd asked them to walk over hot coals. They (4 boys) didn't want to get their hands uey and gluey! It wasn't until I got my hands all gluey that they willing dug in! We only have an hour so it was tight working, and they aren't tight workers, they are mind wondering, mouth working, hands paralyzed workers!

This night is done .... Next week we get to paint!

I told my dry handed assistant (another mom) that she was going to be getting her hands yucky on the paint night while I stood and supervised!

Cub Scout Wednesday

OK, tonight I didn't plan enough. I have a mixture of boys, half are typical rowdy boys. The other half are more quiet, serious and more studious.

Well the latter half wasn't there tonight!

The Theme for tonight was "When I grow up" I started by pulling different types of job tools out of my box (ie: stethoscope, dental mirror, hammer, calculator, etc) we discussed all the type of jobs you could have with these tools. It got quite silly ....remember the more serious boys weren't there!

Then we moved to doing a word search with different jobs... G loves doing word searches! Well, the other boys weren't into being quiet so we finally had to make this a competition by separating the boys and telling them that the first one done got a prize next week. The element of competition was the trick! This quieted the silliness down and they got to work. Little G came out the winner very quickly ( I saw this coming... I'm telling you he loves a good word search).

We were able to stretch it out a few more minutes but it was clearly too short for these boys!

time for a little Ketchup?

Boy this week has been busy, so it's time for a little Ketch up!

* Monday
*I straighten up the house in the morning

*wroted letters to Missionaries

*Met some friends for lunch ...Applebees! Had some Cheese burger sliders and a salad. The
salad was WAY better than the sliders. I'll go with another choice next time.

*I went to a Dentist appointment. Man that Hygienist is wicked with the scrapper!

* W picked up G after school and met me at the dentist office.

*They went in for they'll cleaning and I walked to the county Treasure's office (across the square) Why didn't someone stop me and say ..."hey it's the last week of the month, you realize that you won't be alone?" The lines a fairly short considering. Once I got to the clerk, it took 2 minutes. I walked back and the boys were finished.

*I had 3 cavities (GASP!) and they had none! But I (and only I) get the joy of going back next week and sitting for 80 minutes. reminder to load Ipod with new stuff!

*Then G and went to Piano lessons. They've recently renovated the local community center and it just opened a couple of weeks ago. G's piano lesson switched to there, and the piano is in the beautiful auditorium. Also G likes to play all of his songs fast, I suppose he thinks that it means he knows them!?! His instructor was having to slow him down all night!

*Then rush off to G's make up basketball game. Which started at the same time as the lesson was finished, but we were already in town to it was just a drive across town.'

*going to the dentist always makes me have a headache (from all the scrubbing and scrapping) so when Hubby showed up in the 3rd quarter I left for home and the bottle of tylenol!

*Tuesday
*what a lovely day... I stayed home as much as I could ... I cleaned, I did laundry, I cleaned bathrooms, ....ah it was good! To be home and the sun shining! My favorite.

*Wait I couldn't stay home all day, I had books overdue at the library and money to deposit in the bank! I ran to the town with the library and swung by the bank on my way to get G from school.

*went to the Grocery store, had to pick up some items for a family in the area that were just arriving home from a funeral.

*made it home.. fixed supper, tosadoes! Loved them!

Wednesday .....
*Drop G off at school,
*go get my hair cut and colored. It's cute and the color is just about the same. I thought we were going a little blonder? oh well....
*decorating for the Blue and Gold Round #1 (fix tables), Butcher paper and little flag center pieces. But they need something more....
*come home call about getting some balloons ($1 for each if I get High Flyers! or 50 cents for regular ones.... went with 15 regular balloons)
*eat lunch (can't remember what it was!)
*pay bills
*update computer check book
*shower
*go to G's spelling bee ~ once again he didn't study and makes the spelling bee, but gets out in the first round on the word .... autograph.
*take G with me to the pick up the balloons
*realize that it's our family's week to clean the church and boy does it need it!
*decorate for Blue and Gold round #2 add the balloons, looks good enough.
*G and I run the vacuum in the chapel and take out the bathroom trash before coming home. We'll get the rest later.
*go home and relax for a an hour or two
*pick up some clutter
*go back to the church early so I can get the blank map copies made for the busy work for Blue and Gold (round #3)
*Blue and Gold dinner and ceremony (we have a new cub master and he's not really organized... it showed) the night lasted WAY too late, should have been over 45 minutes earlier! Who knew the balloons would cause such a riot at the end of the night?!?
*got home just in time to read with G
*cleaned up the kitchen
*fall asleep (before hitting the pillow I think)
Thursday ......
*had a meeting at church at 8:15 am until 1pm (at least it didn't last until time to pick up G after school!) finished up that project ... or at least until someone wants things changed!
*I'm here doing Catch up with you!

Cub Scout Wednesday

Tonight was a getting ready for the Blue and Gold Banquet next week night.

We made invitations, then we played a states game (ie: name a state that starts with an A, name a state that has a river running through it) this was a simple game, BUT I forgot the map of the United States! Oops, but you know these boys put their thinking caps on and did great.

We then worked on a little funny (aren't they all) skit for the Banquet.

The boys then did the "Scramble States of America" puzzle.

This is a favorite puzzle of G's and he was so excited when it got pulled out of my bag to put together. I try not to let G know what we're going to be doing so he can be surprised with everyone else.

While the boys were putting the puzzle together the assistant and I tried to work on center pieces for the tables next week.

I'm so not creative ... so they will be simple! We were really hoping to get something figured out so the boys could put them together for us,

but time was running out and they were so enjoying their puzzle!
