1st day of 6th grade!

My baby is in Middle School! it's not hard for me take, he's really growing up and that's fine!

He was awake this morning when I went in to get him up (at 6:45am). I wasn't surprised. We'd talked about his morning schedule last night so he knew what he had to get done. He had an omelet and a smoothie for breakfast.

He was all about independence this morning. We learned that the bus schedule this year won't be so ridiculously early so he could ride the bus in the morning. In the past it came over an hour (yes OVER an hour) before his school started. This year it seems like he'll be the last one on, and of course his school starts earlier than before. So on the bus he was.

he didn't want me to drive him to the road. I always worry that the bus won't see him. He's not real big !?! but I agreed to stay in the drive way, next to the house. I really ended up doing the dishes at the sink so I could see him get on the bus. Gave him an independent heart and me a peaceful heart.

He switches classes this year, but only within his safe and secure 6th grade pod. In case you haven't looked lately there is a big difference between 6th graders (11 years old) and 8th graders (turning 14) so that was big thing for G (and me!). He does venture out of his pod for lunch (with other 6th graders) and then the last hour of the day. Actually for G he get to go to his related Arts class just outside the pod doors until 2 quarter!

Much to his dismay they were told to wear Sunday Dress...AND to us that means shirt and tie!

As you can tell, Sunday Dress means alot of different things to different people. I was SOOoooo glad that his bestest friend Wyatt had on a shirt and tie also!

Life on Thursday

This Thursday is the

last day of Elementary school

for our house.

I dropped him off without Fanfare.

A simple

"I love you and enjoy your last day",

as he jumped out car.

Forgetting his lunch, as we would later find out!

I came home to

enjoy the quiet

of the last day of school at home.

I did some

deep pondering,

as this may be the last moment I have to do that.

I called the school

to see what time the picnic lunch would start.

I woke up W at 10:30 to

remind him

he was going to the picnic lunch and play day with G.

We'd all discuss this and knew W going would make a

bigger impression

with G and his friends than MOM going!

W left here LATE (MOM would not have done that)

but got there well before the picnic.

W didn't have lunch because he was running late.

So once they all discovered that G didn't have his lunch

they bailed out of school and went to lunch at Applebees,

just the boys!

They came home ...

G blurted out his last school day,

we went over his Grade card

(an excellent one I must say),

and I handed over his DS!

I went out to

enjoy this beautiful day

by mowing the yard, spraying weeds and looking at my flowers!

Let the summer begin,

all 82 days of it!

Orientating G

Last week, we went to the Middle school for Orientation.
Yes, G is moving out of Elementary school and right on Middle school!

This was an exciting night we got to roam the school.
See the band room, the art room, the music room and tech room

We both loved the tech room! It's a more like a career education room. It has stations where they learn about all different things (ie: laundry, robotics, crime lab, weather, cooking etc it seemed to me to be the modern day home economics class for both boys and girls) A bonus for me the students get bonus if their parents come and participate. Yea, G will get his bonus points.

They have a 6th grade wing so they aren't really mingled with the 7th and 8th grade. this is good 'cuz there is a huge difference in 6th grade boys and 8th grade boys. They will change classes among the 6th grade teachers. There are 2 male teachers and G has picked one that he wanted for his homeroom.

He had more confidence that he is ready to move up in the fall now!

Peripheral.....

Today was G's county spelling bee! He was out in the first round with a miss spelled Peripheral! Drats!

Once came to sit by me, I gave him a pencil and paper where he wrote his attempt at the words. Some good, some wrong!

In true G fashion he pulls out his study list last night at 9pm (bedtime) to start working spelling. REMINDER .... we'd been snowed in for 3 days with the words in his backpack! That's G for ya!

Life on last Thursday

Last Thursday I volunteered all day at G's school,

with an exhibit called, Body Venture.

We, the volunteers were placed in different parts of the display (11 parts), I got the Brain! Then we started at 8:30am with groups of 10 every 5 minutes. We got a 30 minute break for lunch and then started back until 2pm. I could barely talk by the time my day was done and when I did talk it was at a high of speed. Seems they give you a 6 1/2 talk to be given in 5 minutes (5 minutes that include moving one group out and another group in! I just couldn't talk fast enough.

This was SOOOOooo Cool, the kids loved it. They were given a food card in the "lunch room", where they learned about the food pyramid, then they traveled to the Brain .......

Then they entered the body through the mouth........

They then, as their food (on the card) slowly

traveled through the digestive system, heart and lungs.

Fabulous program, fabulous Day!

Life on Thursday

OK, I'm confused. I know that's nothing new but I saved this post yesterday and I uploaded several pictures from my phone for the post.

Today, I can't find the post nor most of the pictures! If I remember I'll upload them again.

Thursday was a busy day on the road all day!

I took the morning off from working out. It's always nice to get a break from working out AND it's always nice to get the daily things done around here early.

At 11 I had a dental appointment to get my teeth cleaned. That went well, I have a filling that needs to be redone. Great thing ... this dentist put it in so he'll replace it free.

I get done at the dentist then rush ... lead foot it to the school, for G's school assembly. He'd earned an exemplary level on this state reading test last year and was getting a medal for that today at 12:30. There's a picture of this floating around somewhere of this!?!?

I get to come home for a few minutes where I love to walk in my front door because I get to walk through this wonderful fall confetti, it just makes me smile. My burning bushes usually don't have time to burn really well, but this year there hasn't been that much wind and the weather has been perfect for them! They've been beautiful this year. I absolutely love the piles of burned leaves!

I run back to school to pick up G. Run him to the Dentist to get his teeth cleaned ... NO cavities!

Then on the drive home we experience the most beautiful sunset.

Life on Thursday

Today was G's Parent Teacher Conference. The Kid is amazing! He's bright, makes good grades,

his teacher loves him and he TALKS.

I simply told that that wasn't going to change.

He talked early and has been talking ever since! I just have to show you my neighbor's tree!

Isn't a wonderful. They have a great mix of color in their yard.

It was also Friend day for G. He had Mason over.

They been great today, playing boy games inside and out.

They just came to me asking if they could have all the pillows

from upstairs for a tent downstairs.....?

We got to see excitement at Walmart today.

There were 2 police cars in the parking lot.

with 2 policemen handcuffing a woman!

Funny thing is, she was behind a car, standing with her hands behind

her back, handcuffed while the police stand around her,

AND her friend is casually putting her Walmart bags in the car.

Just like nothing unusual was happening.

I had G and Mason with me so they were full of questions.

"Mom, what did she do?"

"What could she do at Walmart that was illegal?"

When I got inside we heard they (or she'd) shoplifted.

I let G program the ringtone on my phone yesterday. Today I received a phone call......Very Extreme Heavy metal! I had to laugh, thus was laughing with I answered it!

Tonight is soccer practice

and we'll have spaghetti for supper.

Hubby and W don't really like spaghetti

so I'll pick up frozen pizzas for them!

Oh and I made my own laundry soap today!

Wordless Wednesday

Diorama Labor day!

Yay, we're pros at this Diorama thing, last year we did a climate Diorama. This year (this weekend) we (G) were assigned a water cycle in 3d. G could pick a 3d poster, a mobile or a diorama. He put his plan on paper, and had strong feelings about 3 things, cotton balls for clouds, pipe cleaners at evaporation and blue glitter glue for the water.

We gathered our items from Hobby Lobby Saturday evening. A place you'd swear G had never been, as he found so many things he needed to save his money for and can't wait to go back and buy things! **a $17 bucket of soldiers and a foam sword that he didn't see the price of!

Well, we worked on it yesterday afternoon and then finished it up today. Wanna see?

UPDATE: we, ur G got a 100% on this! we're, hmmm he's very pleased!

the Ticking of a time bomb???

I think I can hear the ticking of my overwhelmed time bomb.....tick tick tick.....

Several months ago I was sitting in a place where I felt I could volunteer for a couple more positions. One with the local PTO as their Room Parent Coordinator and another to sit on a City board (sounds important huh? not really) to pick out family movies to be shown at the local community center.

Both of these seemed an easy fit for my already volunteering things, 2 church positions, working out, TAXIing for G's activities, the soup label and the Terracycle coordinator for G's school and of course substitute teaching whenever I'm needed. This isn't even counting the regular mom responsibilities that go unspoken!

WELL, one of my positions at church changed into a bit (translation ALOT) more responsibility, while keeping all the others plus adding the 2 others. I was just sitting here filling in my August Calendar (which now looks like a filled month) AND with Hubby in his current position, I think I can hear the faint ticking of my "I'm overwhelmed" time bomb! I wonder just how many ticks I have until the explosion occurs??!?

Today was G's Market day.

They (the students) were to create a business of either a product or a service.

4th Grade Field trip

Last week was G's 4th grade field trip!

Due to budget cuts each class has been cut down to only one field trip per year.

AND that field trip is paid for by the PTO not the school! Yes, one field trip for every grade (k-5) is made through donations to the PTO.

We first stopped at the park to play. The weather was perfect

After playing we ate lunch then board the buses again.

We then went to watch the children's play Frindle.

I had fun, but it literally takes hours for my

ears to stop ringing after getting off the bus!

The boy

Today G brought home the pre registration packet for school next year. Yes, it seems early but it really saves time in the fall!

I was flipping through the papers when I saw the school supply list and mentioned to G that he'd be in 5th grade. I believe my exact words were "WOW, G you're going to be in 5th grade!"

He quickly replied, "I am? How do they know that already? Mom, the school year's not over yet!"

This boy has never gotten the concept in that he will pass every grade the first time. I remember first having this conversation with him in first grade, where he started worrying about it early in the year.

The boy that reads at the 11 grade level, the boy that represented this class in the all school spelling bee, the boy that loves math, is the boy that is always surprised and relieved that he passes the grade!
