2010 Book in Review #4 "A Soft Place to Land"

hmmm, I can't say I liked this book a great deal.
It's a quick read, not deep (at all), very predictable.
It's about 2 half sisters that are separated when their parents are killed. They are already quite different personalities when their parents are killed, and this is basically where the stories begins. The book really follows the younger sister lives, but the older more rebellious sister's live weaves in and out.
It has some language from the rebellious sister and some unnecessary discriptions of breast (just didn't think it needed to be in there). It has a some book club questions at the end, but they weren't really good discussion questions ~ I suppose I think everyone would think like me!
In my opinion, not worth the money, but if you're bored and have nothing else to read (or stuck on a deserted island) ~ try it.

Hopefully this is the end of this problem!

A couple of years ago our front door's glass shattered!
the heat between the 2 doors is amazing and we're guessing that the full pain of glass burst!
I was shocked at what to do, I had a gazillion pieces of glass between my front big door and the 'screen' door.

We cleaned up the mess, which took forever. To be honest everytime the wind blew new pieces of tiny glass would appear from no where! I put the full screen in the door and left it. It was freezing in the winter, so I'd put the ever lovely plastic up to keep the wind out. Last Thanksgiving I said this is enough and sent hubby to Home Depot to get a screen door.
I loved it, they put it in over Thanksgiving break.
Only for this to happen during a beautiful spring storm last month.

(This storm was the only one I've ever been in that I heard a "roar" and wondered if I'd better head for the basement. It seems that the front line wind was powerful at 60mph)
Well, I ordered the new glass and closer
($90 because you know wind isn't covered by the warranty)
it came in today
hubby installed it tonight before supper!
Hopefully
THE END!
side note ~ The cat is sitting outside of the window wondering what happened to her hole into the house AND G just bumped (crashed) into the lower window. Seems he's been just bending over and going in/out the hole also!

It's Movie Night

Since Wednesday nights have the luxury of nothing on the calendar!
It's movie night!

Tonight's movie is

Space Jam!

Gone Fishin'

My dad called to see if G could come fishin' sometime. With the busy Saturday Soccer Schedule it seemed impossible. After discussing the options with hubby, G and I hung out our
"Gone Fishin'"
out on Monday and headed to the Lake!

5 minutes in the water G got his fish

G's one and only!

Gran'pa trying to show G how to get the fish out of the holding tank.
G would touch them but wouldn't grab them!
This is about as close as G would get to the cleaning.
He was curious and asked Gran'pa alot of questions!

Gran'pa Ronnie, G and ME!

Milestone

This morning marked the first time in 10 years that G out grew a pair of shorts! I know it's unbelievable but I have given shorts away simply because they were from when he was a toddler and he just wasn't going to wear them anymore!

Yes, he's out grown pants in length but never pants of any kind around the waist!

He came to me this morning asking for help getting his short button. This usually means that he is having trouble with the snap. NO not this morning it didn't reach!

I can't believe it, my 10 year old boy has outgrown a pair of size 5 shorts!
He's growing!

and He scores!

Today was G's first soccer game of the season!
They won 4 to 3 and the best part....
#2 goal was made by G!

I stood on the sideline beside W
where he continually coached
and at one point he said,
"I won't be a good soccer dad on the sideline."
I would have to agree!

Announcing my new little bundle of joy!

Earlier this week I wanted to blog about my workout, but I just didn't want to turn this blog into my continual ramblings about my workout (!) so I started another blog.

Body Don't Fail Me Now

I just posted the greatest salad/salsa recipe over there, you must go, see, mixed it up and experience this recipe! Must I tell you!

I'm the Glue!

This past weekend W was kicking the soccer ball around the yard (in the wind) and narrowly missing me several times. I finally firmly told him that if he killed me this family would fall apart, cuz I'm the glue!

I could tell he didn't believe me or was just plainly unimpressed.

Today ~ the glue was at work....

Hubby called me saying that his Hotel room had gotten messed up and he didn't have an accessible room, thus he didn't have a room for the night. Could I find him one, while he did an airport run?

Of course I could and after a couple of phone calls I had him a handicap accessible room with 2 beds (for him and his airport friend). Ok, what I'm not saying is that he only has that room for 2 nights but that buys him time, right??

Yep, that's right I'm the glue that holds it all together! You can call me Elmer!

Burn it down or declutter?

OK, in the past month I've visited the place of
"It's time to burn my house down & start all over"
OR
"it's time to declutter"

fortunately for the rest of the family I'm declutter this week!

I've only got a couple of hours today to work so I've got my
handy dandy timer (thank you FlyLady) going on 20 minute
time segments. Every 20 minutes I switch places in my house.

during that 20 minutes I totally focus on that area and declutter!

I won't finish my full task in 20 minutes but it really makes a difference!

AND if this doesn't work I still have the option to burn it all down!

Loving this product

I originally got this (a couple of months ago)
little handy dandy gadget for the blender
(for making smoothies) but I have since fell in
love for the 'chopper' bowl.

I just rough cut my veggies
(carrots, broccoli, cauliflower etc),
drop them in and press the button
and presto I have a chopped veggie
salad. I then just add dressing and it's a
perfect mixed veggie salad.

Happy 10th Birthday!

After baking G's Chocolate chip birthday cookies
all morning I finally got to deliver them to him.....
He handed them out to his class on a silver platter!
I gathered the Birthday boy and his friends afterschool
and we headed to the movies
"How to Train your Dragon"
in 3D

They talked so much and so loud before the movie and through the previews
that I was afraid we'd be thrown out.
Once the movie started I didn't hear a peep out of any of them.
We all give the movie 2 thumbs up!

Excellent Movie

Then we headed to the Pizza Buffet.

Finally we make it home
and wait for hubby, W and Megan to get there
for the Birthday cookies and opening cards/presents.

Saturday afternoon W and his friend Chris took G for an afternoon of Putt Putt golf.
This is G's version of the John Wall dance .
Just between you and me, be glad you're not seeing a video of G's version. It makes Elaine's Dance (off of Seinfeld) look wonderful! Maybe I'll have to sneak a video of G and share it.

G's version of the Karate Kid!
I think they had fun!

Good bye Single Digits

Today is that last day someone in our family is a Single Digit!

This boy has been so wise beyond his years that
I don't think he's been a single digit mentally since he was ......maybe 2.
We recently got the results of his reading tests.
He reads at a 11.8 grade level and reads instructionally at a 10.8 grade level.
He loves Math, He's a super speller, homework is an anoyance and he believes if he could just get everyone to listen he COULD rule the world!
