5 for Friday

This week .....
#1
G and his Boy Scout troop went on a 10 miles bike ride. G was a bit nervous about this since the older Boy Scouts were invited but as it turned out he had a BLAST. Half of the group stopped on the first 5 mile loop but G was all in for another loop!
#2
As you know my Air Conditioner was out all week, which was really fine UNTIL I needed to look good when I was going somewhere. I had a PEO meeting on Tuesday, not only a meeting but a luncheon before! The meal was wonderful and atmosphere was great, but getting ready was a HOT MESS. You know the kind of mess where you're trying to get your hair dry, and the humidity won't let you and then you're sweating because your HOT curling your hair. I finally just had to give up and let it be.
#3
Farmer Bob cut, raked, and baled the hay this week much to G's delight!
#4
The day after the hay was baled G came in yelling that he found a rattle Snake. I stopped him asked where?
G ~ "at the edge of the field, right by the yard"
Me ~ "I don't think we have rattle Snakes around here. Why would you think it was a rattle snake?"
G ~ "cuz it had it's tail up shaking"
Me ~ "was it making a rattle sound."
G ~ "no, but when they're small they don't make noise."
Me ~ "was it small"
G ~ "well, no but it's a rattle snake! Where's dad?"
I guess the conversation wasn't going the way he wanted with me.
After a few minutes outside he came running back in and said, "well, it's dead now"
Me ~ "how did you do that?"
G ~ "I hacked it's head off!"
Me ~ " With what? You're grandma would be proud of you"
G ~ " The shovel. Now I'm going to show it to dad (who was in the basement)!"
Me ~"WAIT, you're not bring THAT thing in the house!"
G paused to think...... "ah, I wasn't"
After putting on the basement concrete, and having hubby look at it, it was a Bull Snake. We have alot of those! Well, not alot (not like the snake house that was on the news this week) but we do have Bull Snakes around.
When I asked G how he got the snake to the concrete, he replied ... I carried it! but of course he had gloves on ....My good winter gloves were found by the basement door!?!?

This evening Hubby called when he was almost home to say this was just up the road!

G and I jumped in the car driving to meet one of

G's idols!

G in Heaven, chatting with Reed Timmer

of DiscoveryChannel's Storm Chaser

Reed told him that he was scared of storms

when he was his age too! Then he started

studying the storms.

G checking out the Denominator!

These were the clouds they were watching,

but Reed told me that they were weakening,

but more would pop up over night, being just

strong thunder storms. BUT this area needs

to watchful on Monday. Things could be active

on Monday. This little tidbit we're not sharing

with G!

5 for Friday

#1

It appears that our AC is not cooling.

Of course I discover this after 5 on Friday afternoon.

But the weather looks cooler for the weekend.

And our AC man, who is headed out of town

said he'd call us Sunday afternoon.

#2

It's been a HOT week here so we've gone to

water the flowers and more specific the tomato plants 3 times a day.

Morning, afternoon and night.

#3

One the things on my todo list today was to go by my friend's house and put her yard cart back up. Yesterday I have taken my recycles to her house (her recycling truck picks up everything, when my truck is selective), put them in her yard cart, when I couldn't find her recycling tub. Rolled the cart to the curb and left. My friend is out of town, but knew I was had things for her curb. Today when I went by the cart was gone! Sudden fear set in, someone had taken her yard cart! I went around the back of her house and there was the yard cart with all my recycling in it! He husband (we guess, he didn't say anything about it to her) had moved the cart last night and thus my recycling was still there! We'll try again next week!

#4

G's 5th grade class pool party was today.

He'd gone to the pool yesterday and got sunburnt.

If this hadn't been an eagerly anticipated party I would have veto it.

Instead I just slathered him with sunscreen and sent him on his way.

He was so pink that the Pool Manager that knows him,

took him into her office and reapplied sunscreened.

I see this often and always laugh at Skipper.

He likes to eat laying down???

I've never seen a dog (or any animal for that matter) eat laying down,

but it seems to be Skippers favorite position!

When he saw that I was going to take his picture he looked up,

wagged his tail and just went back to eating!?!?

5 fer Friday

1 ~ Since both boys were home this morning (at least until 9:20), I fixed Cinnamon Rolls. Well, fix is abit strong, Rhodes fixed the rolls, I opened them pan and turned on the oven. OH BUT I did put the cream cheese frosting (that Rhodes fixed and put in the pan with the frozen rolls) on the Rolls! There was some fixing on my part.

2 ~ G and I moved the Cacti in. It's suppose to rain this weekend and they are so much easier to move when they don't have water in them! I just don't see that the weather will be warm too much longer, it is the last week of October afterall. Then he was off to play with a friend. It's so nice to work with him when there is a pot of Gold at the end for him!

3~ Did you know there are new Pennies? I didn't either! until W brought a few home. They are lighter than old pennies, and not as uniform (the edges) as old pennies. As a matter of fact I began saying, I don't think they're real until Hubby gave me that look and said, "Who would counterfeit Pennies?" Of course he'd seen a show (sometime while he's been bed bound this summer) about how they were making the new pennies.

4~ My neighbor's trees seemed to have peaked this week! They are just beautiful!

5~ G has grown an inch in 6 months! He's quite thrilled with himself! I'm not so thrilled, it's time to start buying/wearing jeans again. It's horrible buying that boy jeans!

5 fer Friday

1 ~ Early this morning (ok it was 9:30ish, that's early for W) I was greeted by W. When I asked him what time he'd gotten home, he laid into me! "Yea, No one called me to see where I was, no one woke up for me when I came home! It's like you guy just thought I was out of town! What's up with that?" Guess he has yet to figure out that I'm old and tired!
2~ Drop and give me 10, this is the new rule around here. If G argues with me and G argues with me about everything, then I say Drop and give me 10 and he has to do it, because if he argues it's 10 more! When he went to complain to hubby, hubby just stated, "WOW, then I wouldn't argue with her anymore!"
3 ~Hubby and G called a quail into the back yard yesterday, not just the back yard but right off the deck. All this happened while I was gone. But they were both quite excited to tell me. AND before you ask.. I'll tell you, they did it by whistling. I have one question and concern ~ just how stupid can quail be that they fall for a BobWhite from a 10 year old that can bearly whistle?!!?
4 ~ I went to a Walmart in a neighboring town and just let me say that All Walmarts are not created equal!
5 ~ I believe this was on Thursday evening but I was unofficially declared the worst mother ever ... I think that means I must be doing something RIGHT!?!

5 fer Friday

You know when I envisioned my 5 fer Friday posts, I envisions at least 5 pictures from our Friday......WELL, as you can tell pictures just aren't happening. My camera has stopped talking to my computer and it's frustrating trying to be the mediator for those two so I will not have pictures from my camera. I can still take pictures with my phone but they're phone pictures not camera pictures! OK on to this week's 5 fer Friday!

#1 started at 4:45 this morning. Our neighbor, Jim's birthday is today and he took off work to go fishing. He asked G to go with him and they'd be leaving at 5:30am. G told me that he needed to be down there to get things ready by 5am. He was ready at 5am but we didn't see any lights go on at Jim's house until 5:19 (to be exact). Those were some tense minutes waiting for those lights! The fishing trip wasn't much of a success but I think G had fun! I'm not sure how much rest or quiet Jim has had today, since G has been down there almost all day!

#2 I started a new book that I'm loving "Saving Cee Cee Honeycutt". This book came highly recommended so I'm excited to read it!

#3 W is working the afternoon shift and then a pool party afterwards. This means that I need (I've been asked) to take dinner into him. Which is grilled chicken (leg quarters) and pouch cooked potatoes.
#4 It's hot! and Humid! Not just hot and humid ... EXTREMELY hot and Humid!

#5 today was a Mommy relax day. I slept, I read, I fell asleep reading, I woke, I munched on 'tasty' things, I read, I slept, I read, I munched .... get the drift?!!? I needed today.

It's five for Friday time!

1. Sleeping in... well sort of. Hubby gets a IV med at 6am, but it can be late (and it can be earlier, but the morning dose hasn't ever been given early) so I gave it at 7am this morning. I know I'm old when it's a luxury to sleep into 7am. Between this medicine time and swim team, I'll be glad for school to start so I can sleep in to 7 every morning.

2.

W was called into sub for a swim lesson instructor.
He's a lifeguard so he can sit in with another instructor.
When we got there for G's swim lessons, W was one of his
instructors. This seemed to be W's position for all of G's lesson!

3. Hubby smoked a Brisket today. It was so nice to pull in the drive smell the wonderful aroma and then realize it was coming from my back deck! Supper was sooo gooood!

4. G and I went to the pool late today. I sat reading while G jump off the diving boards a 100x. He's got one jump (the pencil) but calls it different things ... Like the Bacon jump. He does his Pencil jump while yelling "BACON" Today he worked on getting his 180 to a 360. yep, you got it, it's a turning pencil!

5. I started a new book, and already have a quote that I love.
"A fever that high can boil your brain and cause permanent damage, So don't ever tell anyone you had it. You do, you might have trouble catching a husband."
