5 for Friday

#1

It appears that our AC is not cooling.

Of course I discover this after 5 on Friday afternoon.

But the weather looks cooler for the weekend.

And our AC man, who is headed out of town

said he'd call us Sunday afternoon.

It's been a HOT week here so we've gone to

water the flowers and more specific the tomato plants 3 times a day.

Morning, afternoon and night.

One the things on my todo list today was to go by my friend's house and put her yard cart back up. Yesterday I have taken my recycles to her house (her recycling truck picks up everything, when my truck is selective), put them in her yard cart, when I couldn't find her recycling tub. Rolled the cart to the curb and left. My friend is out of town, but knew I was had things for her curb. Today when I went by the cart was gone! Sudden fear set in, someone had taken her yard cart! I went around the back of her house and there was the yard cart with all my recycling in it! He husband (we guess, he didn't say anything about it to her) had moved the cart last night and thus my recycling was still there! We'll try again next week!

G's 5th grade class pool party was today.

He'd gone to the pool yesterday and got sunburnt.

If this hadn't been an eagerly anticipated party I would have veto it.

Instead I just slathered him with sunscreen and sent him on his way.

He was so pink that the Pool Manager that knows him,

took him into her office and reapplied sunscreened.

I see this often and always laugh at Skipper.

He likes to eat laying down???

I've never seen a dog (or any animal for that matter) eat laying down,

but it seems to be Skippers favorite position!

When he saw that I was going to take his picture he looked up,

wagged his tail and just went back to eating!?!?

Monday Ramblings ~ Camera Purge

My camera doesn't talk to my computer!?! Both work great independently of each of they just can't get it together (it's a union thing I'm sure!). Most of the pictures I post here are from my phone, but I do still take pictures with my camera and when I have time I put the memory card in Hubby's laptop, download the pictures then burn a disc and move them in to my computer! Not a horrible process but still a process!

Here are some great shots from the latest Camera Purge ...

G's New Year's Party ~

The boys at Midnight
(Just after their fireworks)
Twister!

Obviously I'm not the only one taking pictures ~

Ya, I created that
or should I say I gave birth to that!
He created THAT!
Outside my Bedroom Window ~

What you can't see is the Cat lurking around the tree!
My animals love me! ~

Last month I was hanging the last set of new curtains in my bedroom. When I started there wasn't anyone outside the window. By the time I finished they were both there, with their tail wagging!

Beautiful grounded day

My school Terra Cycling stuff was getting out of hand and with the weather so cold and rainy (earlier this week) I didn't want be cold in the garage messing with it. Today when my plans got grounded by G's illness and the warm (60's) sunny weather I conquered the recycling. We've already collected about $30 for the school.

Then I headed out to hang up G's beautiful bright red bird house.

Picture to come later.

Hubby found a little tree that looks like a Deer had rubbed on it. If only our dog weren't afraid of the night he could really be more effective!?! When he is out (during the day) he's busy digging for moles in the field. He's driven one into the edge of the yard. I was looking at the 'mounds' in the yard one day when he attempted to start digging for one. I scolded him and he stopped, got that pitiful look on his face and thankgoodness hasn't dug in the yard since. I believe I could become Bill Murray from Caddyshack if this mole gets further into my yard.

I brought up a box of old movies (from W's days) for G to watch. Aladdin is currently playing.

Marking the summer chores off.....

Today we (G and I) cleaned the garage. We got all the stuff (junk) out when it clouded over and started to rumble. Boy that's when the challenge started .......

I was surrounded by scaredy cats ~

A helper that was wearing ear phones! He swears he can hear everything I say, but I beg to differ! and the Dog that wanted to be in garage. He was in there but when the rumbles got too loud he would follow me around.

Nothing like a deaf helper and a guide dog on my heals!

It finally sprinkled for 2 minutes, nothing but HOT, HUMIDITY when it was over!

The garage is done, it looks good, smells good (well, abit too much like bleach), a big pile of trash for the garbage man and another summer chore checked off my list.

Riding the Bus

G has wanted to ride the bus all year (all 7 days of it)! The bus route keeps him on the bus for an hour and half in the afternoons, Yep you read that right! He is the next to last one off. Sitting on the bus for THAT long is unacceptable in our house. The morning route makes him the next to last one picked up making the morning ride much shorter. He is still picked up one hour before school starts BUT he's at the school with plenty of time, he's not sitting on the bus.

G anxiously paced as he was waiting to break out the front door. I made him wait until 5 after but he was wanting to head to the road at 5 til.

As we walked out the door we found this...

This morning he choose to eat breakfast at school, I think he was worried that he'd miss the bus if he ate here!?! He also discovered that his new school served Elf grahams, he'd thought he left elf grahams behind at his old school.

Even Skipper watched G waiting for the bus. I think G was talking to the neighbor girls (last ones on the bus), well, I'm sure he was talking we, Skipper and I could hear him so I just suppose that it was to the neighbors!?!

Introductions have been made.

Last night when we came home from cub scouts Skipper had treed the neighbor's cat. This caused some worry on my behalf but introductions had to made.

The picture above, this is not a snap shot, this is a picture of the way Skipper stood most of the morning when a kitten was visible. Notice the tail? I don't think Skipper is really comfortable with the situation.
It may take time but I think the kittens will be walking all over Skipper before long!

Thursday in Pictures

We (or maybe I should just say I) are really into this recycling. I try to take a load every week or at least every week and a half. Today was the day. Most of this is cardboard and a few plastics. It has really cut down on our trash.
you were going to get a What's for Dinner?" but all I'm going to get is the before picture because as I got ready to put this on the grill the Propane ran out. Oh well, I just rub Olive Oil, garlic powder (or salt) and Parmesan cheese all over the chicken and then grill on the top rack of the grill until done. It has a great taste. FYI ~ the chicken is now being baked in the oven. We'll see how that goes.
Has I was stepping out the door to put the chicken on the grill Skipper took off across the field. He's spotted a lone turkey! The turkey didn't fly but did slip through the fence. I heard the turkey call a few times but Skip (thankfully) came back pretty quickly empty handed.

AFter supper G started our fireworks with some Smoke Bombs and a few bottle rockets! Yes, of course the bottle rockets were shot off with ear plugs! Poor hubby was having to yell the instructions to G! I don't know who or what was louder the fireworks or the instructions!

And poor Skip hiding in the garage scared to death!

Then we headed into town to watch the firework display!

Our little town and it's traditions!

The 3th of July tradition of Fireworks!

recap in pictures

Just how many of these can I eat before I'm sick?
"Man vs. Wild"

G has been playing Man vs Wild every night as he goes to bed. All week he makes a tent in the living room and sleeps there. FYI ~ Man vs. Wild is a TV show about a man surviving in the wild for 7 days, trying to find his way out to civilization.
I had the thought this past weekend how I should post about how isolating our house is when the hay gets high. We can't see the cars going by on the road, Skipper doesn't leave the yard, it's wonderful. Much to G's delight Farmer Bob started cutting the hay yesterday! G rides with him until he's done at our house.
G and Skipper investigating the newly exposed hay field.

Saturday recap.....

I found this on the table this week after G had lunch!

Who says motherhood doesn't have it's rewards?!

G, the Proud Dad taking his baby butterflies out of for dinner. He wasn't quite ready to let them all go so he would take them out to eat a bit and then put them back in their hut. This morning he finally let them all go.

G enjoyed his time at cub scout day camp. The last day was cut short because of strong winds, but the boys got to tye-die, shoot bow and arrows, and shoot the BB guns before they came home.

Today G went fishing with our neighbor, Jim. G and Jim are buddies and have a great time together.

Poor Skipper is a bit shell shocked from all the storms this week. I've been leaving him outside at night but he's always happy when W comes in later and lets him in the garage! Just in case! As a matter of fact Skipper is at the back window looking at me, wanting in the garage.

Even W is a bit weary of the weather. We had another thunderstorm a couple of nights ago. I called to tell W he should come home. I heard him pull up but then someone was knocking at the back door, it was W. He thought he'd park behind the house just in case it hailed the house would protect his truck! I wondered why he didn't just move my van and pull in the garage!? I'm sure he doesn't want his truck looking like my van!

Hump Day Updates

Things are so mundane around here that I'm questioning even giving an update, but it's Wednesday and here goes what I have.

I mowed on Monday. Skipper, the dog got all frisky as I mowed, but finally moved out to the field to stare at a hole. After several hours of mowing he finally brought me his "lucky rabbit's foot" to show me!

Hubby and G planted their "Earthbox" Big Boy tomatoes, after playing catch with the football for a while.

W has been suffering with shin splints. Hubby and I have been trying to get him to take it slow but it's not soaking in with League this week and Regionals next week. W did find out that he is ranked 7th in the League. Evidently there is a kid in the League jumping 44' that

W has not competited against. W is now hoping that everyone else has a bad meet, with him soaring further than he's ever! He's a teenager with a dream!

Yesterday, I went to the city for a routine doctor's appointment, and then some errands, mostly returns!

Today was teacher appreciation! We sent petunias, begonias, and marigolds to the secretaries, the principal, the helpers in G class, along with his teachers!

Here comes Peter Cotton Tail, Hopping down the Bunny trail.....

~Easter Traditions~
In the Easter tradition G and I colored Easter Eggs this morning! G focused on putting his friend's names on the eggs, while I stuck with the more tradition Easter egg designs. Can I just say this day is the entire reason I have coffee cups!

Then on the Saturday before Easter our friends the Hull Family have a GREAT tradition of an Easter Egg Hunt. Everyone they know is invited. Everyone is required to provide either 2 bags of candy or 2 dozen real hard boiled eggs (before hand) then they have them ready to go when you get there! Here is G and his friend, trying to be patient, waiting for everyone to arrive. The field behind them is covered with colorful plastic eggs. I think the Hull's said they had over a 1000 eggs this year!

When they say GO and it's a free for all. Gather as many eggs as you can before they're all gone! Which only takes a few minutes. Once the gathering ends the counting begins, there is a GRAND prize of $1 for the most gathered. Then the eggs are emptied, you keep the candy and return the eggs. G had 52 eggs!

New Tradition?

G found these eggs at Wal-mart. They are "Lights out Egg Hunt"! Last night I hid (tossed) in the front yard after dark. G and W's girlfriend, J raced to see who could find the most. The eggs have a small glow in the dark stripe around them and then they had small flashlights! It was fun and COLD.

Skipper, the dog, thought it was great that I'd come outside to play ball with him! He'd run after the eggs ~ I finally had to just let him have an egg. He was so disappointed with it popped open thus making it not a 'ball' anymore!

I should have just stayed in bed!

Skipper on a calmer day
This morning as I was waking up I could hear the low rumble of thunder in the distance. It didn't wake me up, but I could hear it once I was awake. First thing I always do is go let the dog, Skipper out of the garage. As I opened the door, Skipper zooms past me and into the house. Skipper is scared of thunder! This happens not once but 3 times this morning between 7am and 10am. On the second round of scared Skipper in the house, W's friend that was spending the night got a sacred dog on top of him with a wagging tail in his face. Poor Skip didn't know why everyone wasn't as glad to see him as he was glad to see everyone! Each time it was more and more difficult, as Skipper was getting wise to my ways! I finally had to get tough! and make the inside louder than than the low rumbles outside. Don't mess with MOM with a pan and spoon in hand!

I finally got to the city, only be running around in the rain, I finally decide to head to the mall for G's new church clothes -- Well, I wasn't alone at the mall ~ today is the first day of spring break and I believe that every kid in the county was at the mall. Panda Express had a line 10 deep every time I walked by!

I'm home now, Skipper is outside in the sprinkles, my little bit of groceries are up and I'm wanting to go relax with the cover up to my chin and not come out until tomorrow.

What a difference a day makes.

Yesterday it was a calm but cloudy day. The weather man had said that it would rain all afternoon but nothing happened, so I wondered if the snow would come. Well it was sneaky and came in the dark of night! This morning I was awaken by G announcing that there was SNOW! and then the phone rang soon with the announcement that church had been canceled. I peeked outside to find a beautiful blanket of snow with HUGE flakes still falling along with all sorts of creatures attempting to survive in the snow. Skipper, the dog was shivering and huddled in the corner of the front porch, a variety of birds looking for food in my snowy bird feeders and then hubby and G saw 3 deer prancing around the back field. The dog got rescued into the somewhat warm garage, the bird feeders were cleared of the snow and refilled with tasty seeds and the deer, well they're off playing in someone else's field. I do think the snowy home looks more interesting but it was a bit more treacherous getting the 2nd picture.
