Heard around the House

G ~ "What did you guys have for supper last night?" (he spent the night with a friend)
Me ~ grilled Chicken
G ~ "oh that's the same as we had, only it was Pork"
Me ~ "how does that make it the 'same as we had'?"
G ~ "Well, they're the same things just one is Chicken and one is Pork"
Me ~ "No Chicken is a Chicken, Pork is a Pig and Beef is a Cow"
G ~ "Oh, well, they're all farm animals"

Saturday on the Prairie

SIDE NOTE~ I'm sorry about the spacing of this post, but I've worked on it for a great while and it just won't space right! sorry ......

We started out early, and I mean early for these boys. We left at 7am! and DROVE and DROVE and DROVE!

Our GPS told us once we got on a our major Prairie Highway that we had 104 miles until we turned. Good we settled in, set the cruise control and DROVE!

Seems at 104 miles there was a major Prairie Highway intersection, the GPS old us to stay on the Prairie Highway we were already on and reset itself.
Just how can that be??
Once it reset for the next 30something miles.
We settle in again, set the cruise control and DROVE!

It wasn't rainy, it wasn't snowy, but there was a low cloud deck. At the 30something mile we started to see these huge poles but couldn't see what was at the top. Slowly more and more poles and THEN.... we began to see something dipping out of the clouds. It was as if we were in an scary alien movie.
We were so busy being scared (OK mostly me but I wasn't driving) we missed out 30something turn off!
Just how can this be??
We made it, with plenty of time to spare.
Made it where you ask???
W had a PowerLifting competition!

his final weight on the dead lift was 445 pounds.

HE SET 3 STATE RECORDS! That boy is a freakish beast!

Oh and there was this .....

I kept thinking that this poor boy had a hole in his singlet

and on his hiney no less!

BUT the front was marked with Georgia, it's a peach!

OK this little prairie town we went to.....

there was just something odd about it. It was super small.

There were 2 choices of eating places, DQ and Pizza Hut.

The School was really old, stone but had an amazing football field and track, there was a modern, state of the art activity center, and when we drove around most of the houses were brand new.

Just how can this be?

I couldn't figure out why or how people were moving in this town. There didn't seem to be any big business to have a town that was growing, thus people having new houses AND the new houses weren't in subdivisions. They just along the old streets with a few older homes sprinkled in.

Something just didn't fit with this town.

As we leaving we stopped at DQ to eat, there was plaque that stated

DQ survived the "prairie town" tornado of 2001.

It all began to make since, everything was about 10 years old! New houses sprinkled in along with older ones, along the old streets... it all made since now.

As we drove home, we once again drove by the alien objects dipping out of the clouds only this time the clouds were higher.

I still can't look at them without having that alien thought come into my mind!

After a long drive back home we got home around 9:20pm. I went to bed and the boys all went out!?!

Thing that make me go hmmmmm....

After getting a text hours earlier that W was at his friends house playing video games, then getting a text at 5:52am that says W is spending the night at his friend's house.

**At 5:52am I thinking it's morning and about to get up, not thinking about it as a time to decide to 'spend the night' someplace??? Maybe it's an age gap thing?!?

Wordless Wednesday ~ just making sure I'm paying attention!

OK this can't be wordless.....

When we added a line last month the salesman
forgot to click the "unlimited text" feature.
They fixed it, retroactive!
By the way the bill was 139 pages!

Wordless Wednesday

Ok I just can't be wordless on this one! Hubby went for a MRI this morning and they put this one him. Now that's great that they are looking out for Hubby, but I wanted to ask "Who exactly isn't a fall risk when laying on that skinny MRI table?" I've laid on it, it's skinny, there are no handles, I had to wait until someone came to help me up or I would have FALLEN off the blasted table! I should have gotten a FALL RISK bracelet too! It's not like Hubby would have laid there rocking back and forth, or maybe that's the deal. He appeared to be a rocker and a roller. I just think this is a selective measure, and I'm not going to stand for it! I might fall for it ...... ahhh get it, fall for it???!?!

One person's trash is the another's treasure

The bread was just toasting away under
the broiler while we were eating supper.
Long forgotten to me until the smoke started to come out of the oven.
I quickly moved the bread to the deck to cool
and remove the stink (or most of it) from the kitchen.
My Trash!
A while later Skipper found a new toy!
He was so excited, he was tossing them up in the air,
wanted me to play fetch with them and then he chewed them up!
His Treasure!

Milestone

This morning marked the first time in 10 years that G out grew a pair of shorts! I know it's unbelievable but I have given shorts away simply because they were from when he was a toddler and he just wasn't going to wear them anymore!

Yes, he's out grown pants in length but never pants of any kind around the waist!

He came to me this morning asking for help getting his short button. This usually means that he is having trouble with the snap. NO not this morning it didn't reach!

I can't believe it, my 10 year old boy has outgrown a pair of size 5 shorts!
He's growing!

Did it or Didn't it? Do they or don't they?

Early this morning I went to move a wheel barrel that got left in the yard during spring break chores. I had already noticed the cat was very interested in the wheel barrel and soon I understood why. A mouse rushed out of wheel barrel and under the car. The Cat took noticed and kept it under the car for a bit. She was distracted by me wheeling the wheel barrel around. In her moment of distraction the mouse went by the dog and into the garage.

Interesting side note to this ~ G was walking out about the same time the mouse was rushing in and did the natural, stop, stiffen and gasp at the sight of a mouse. I now know that this is a natural reaction since little G hasn't dealt with any mice in life time!

Well, I left the garage door open as I drove G to school thinking that either the cat (or dog) would get the mouse or it would leave the same way it came it. AND I certainly didn't want to think that my loyal pets would allow a mouse into the house!

Well, when I got back the dog was still acting all giddy. My confidence rose, they were still on the trail. When I surveyed the garage no mouse but no cat.....she was asleep in her 'bag'!

So Did it or Didn't it come into my house?

A couple of hours later I started the self cleaning oven as I walked out the door to the Y. When I returned my house was filled with smoke. Yes, my oven and baking stone were really in need of a cleaning! Lucky for me the weather was somewhat warm so I could open the windows and air things out. Then I thought why weren't the smoke alarms going off!?! Once before (years ago) we had a smokey cooking event and wondered why they hadn't gone off. They work when I press the test button, hmmmm.

So do they or don't they work ?

The week of Odd Dreams

Boy, waking up this week has been full of memories of odd dreams.

I spent Christmas with my sister in law (yes, you Maurice) only it wasn't her real house, and she had some odd decorations. I just kept trying to figure out this one particular decoration and just couldn't. Maurice when you read this, just let me say that if you ever get an idea to put the red velvet curtain (that is still some how hanging in the window) under the glass vases filled with pine cones ~ it's not a good look!

ANd I've sorted my recycling with Oprah! but then again who doesn't sort their recycling with Oprah in a dream?!? In the dream I embarrassed myself by telling Oprah all about Terracycle and then remember that I learned about from her!

should have just stuck to my one thing!

I went to the city today to run errands, plain and simple.

My friend called me to ask if she could tag along, she a had couple of errands and then we'd have lunch. Sounded perfect to me!

One of her errands was to Hobby Lobby. There was one thing I'd been wanting to get there, no big deal I'd just run get my thing then I'd tag along with her.

She stuck to her one thing .... I didn't!

I got my one small craft item and then I saw it ......I'd been wanting a black mirror to replace my wood mirror ...they didn't have a black one but a very dark one ...AND at 50% off.... in the cart it went.

I got home worked at getting it up before hubby got home. I worked and worked, stupid screws won't hit the right spots! Ahhh, there it was hung perfectly .... I step back to marvel that the beauty I'd just hung and things went blurry!?!
JUST HOW CAN THIS BE?

The mirror was terrible. As long as I was close up it was fine, but when I stepped back a few steps it was horrible. I left the room, refusing to look at it, but when I did ~ carnival style mirror re-appeared.

I took it down and put the old brown one back up. I'll return it tomorrow.
Should have just stuck to my one item!

Great Sunday

I didn't go to church today except to make some copies and hand them out.
Lucky for me I was there long enough for my friend,Iris to find me.
She had a Birthday gift for me!

We both got a laugh out of this ....
a very colorful nesting turkey!
She told me that she just laughed when she saw it
and knew I needed that for my collection!
She also said that she must really treasure ME
since she was parting with one of her
"Smithsonian" boxes for my turkey!

Then boys and I then took off driving to visit family.

I've been driving this same route for over 20 years
(probably closer to 25 years)
and when we go through an area where we see these signs ~

But I've never seen an Amish person or even an Amish buggy.
Just How can This Be?
Until the last time we went through the area, I turned to hubby, and said, "you know we've never seen an Amish person through here." I turn my focus back to the road and there is a buggy on the side of the road. I was about to tell W in this same thing on this trip, when we see a couple of barefooted Amish boys (in the Sunday clothes) walking along the road.

We stop at HaHaTonka State Park, we walk around the Castle ruins

and look out over the bluff.
The boy's Granny (hubby's mom) used to work at and stayed at
HaHaTonka Castle when she was young.

College Shopping

Hmmmm what can I say?
much to my disappointment, I've raised a MAN!

W just isn't much of a shopper!

With isle and isles of sheets and comforters to pick from ... he walked over, picked up the second one on the first isle... "I'm done, mom"

NOW that wasn't the case at the NIKE shop with the Portugal football jerseys.....

Mono Update

I have to say that I don't see much difference in W's sleep pattern now than all last summer!
Just How Can Be?

I keep saying that "I don't think you're sick"
W's answer, "you saw the test strip"

I don't think he has a bad case of Mono or is almost over it???

Sympathy is over .... the yard needs to be mowed!

Just How can This Be?

I called my adult son, W today to see if he wanted to have lunch with me. He did, it took him FOREVER to get there and when he did he had his buddies, Logan and Michael with him. Not a problem just added more laughter and merriment to lunch.

We all got fortune cookies when we were still at the table. Logan's said something like "be prepared for the unexpected".

As I was paying the cashier offered us another fortune cookie, Logan who happened to be walking by heard her and took another cookie out the large bowl of cookies.

As I walked out the boys were pulling out of the parking spot, I heard Logan yell, "what the h***?" and noticed his puzzled look on his face. As they pulled be me, I asked him what was wrong.

He'd gotten the exact same fortune "Be prepared for the unexpected." I then told him to buckle up!

I've eaten Chinese all my adult life and never had the same fortune! Just how can this be?

Wait..... Wait.... We forgot.....

Yesterday was our 20th wedding anniversary, but we both forgot until very late last night.

When I mentioned it around 11pm, W said, "oh, yeah I thought it was."

Just how can this be? .... our 18 year son can remember better than we can....oh, yeah he's younger!

Happy Anniversary hubby!

**bonus** we were trying to figure out how old Julie was and I said she was maybe one at my wedding.....Julie we were thinking about you because W read your facebook page about you watching the Biggest Loser!

Thursday's Track meet.....

I was in Wal-mart (at 3:05) getting a couple of snacks for G and I when I got a text from W. It said he was in the "3rd heat".... the next text..... "the 3rd heat was stacked with his team so they'd do well today." WHAT .... the track meet had already started......Just how can this be? (in track meets the field events usually start 3:30)

I was at least 30 minutes away and I still had 20 minutes until I could pick up G... and the track meet had started......

I rushed out of Wal-mart only to wait in the car line to get G... then rushed to the track meet.

You know I'd really wanted to not go to this track meet.... really just lazy.... but I was thinking of all things I could be doing, and does it really matter to W if I'm there or not? Well, I kept getting text about "Where are you, mom?" I knew he wanted me there.... I love that! I was getting updates on how much time I had until he was jumping.... but then just as I'm sitting at the last stop light in town I get the text.... "Never mind I'm jumping" WHAT did that mean?

Well, he scratched on that jump! That's what he gets for jumping without his mom there! .....actually the official was a bit whacked....alot of people were scratching and as I watched....alot of got good jumps even if their toe was over....?????

W and A with their GQ looks!

W ended up with a Long jump of 19 feet 8 inches and 41' 7 1/2"

which put him in 4th (1/4 " behind #3)

Monday Monday

In an attempt to save my time and hubby's money I've been letting G ride the bus more and more. Saving me about an hour a day, gas, $ all the while G loves it.

This morning the bus is coming (we can see it), we're sitting at the end of the drive way.....
G "Mom, I don't have my glasses!"
Me ~ groan
G ~ just bring them to me..... before 10 'cuz that's when we have Math."

As I'm trying to get out of the door at 9:30 I spend 5 minutes looking for my glasses, only find them on my face ... I've been looking through them!

Then at 11:55 I get a text from W

"anyway I can get lunch money today?"
me ~ "today"
W ~ "yep"

Just How Can this Be?

So much for my saving $, time and gas.......

Monday, Monday......

Hump Day Updates

Well, things have been a whirl but I think it's just my life right now.

Tuesday, I dropped G off at school, and then head to a planning meeting at church, had Chinese for lunch, YUM YUM! Then off to play 'welcome wagon' to a new young lady (very young) in our congregation. She has the most beautiful little baby, Maggie who is just 10 mos old. As I chatted with Maggie's mom, I was remind of just how old I am (I SO wanted to head to aisle 5). Came home to rest for a few minutes before heading off to G's soccer practice.

Wednesday, I headed of to visit another lady from church. This was fun, we laughed, we talked, and we watched her make bread and homemade noodles! yes, from scratch. I'd never seen this, so it was fun. She works at the local YMCA as the program director and today was her day at home. So she was making a 'good' meal for her family!

As we (my friend Stephanie was along with me today) stopped by this great little BBQ place. It's at the airport. When we got there the car parking lot was full and the plane lot was full. We got the last table available. It was fun to see those around us leave in their planes. It made me wonder where they'd all came from. When you come to visit the prairie, I'll take you there for the experience.

tonight is a night of rest....and Laundry and all that other stuff that doesn't get done when I'm on the run!

Oh, for those of you who like to know.... G has not lost his glasses yet, but did lose his glasses case the first day he took/wore them to school!?! Just How can this be?
