Please remind me ....

.....that I don't get a fever when I get strep throat!
Yes, that is what I have and once again I was waiting to see
if I'd get a fever THEN I'd go to the doctor!
I've done this 2x now
I should be able to retain this information for the next time.
I love the Take Care Clinic at Walgreens!

Take 2 asprins and call me in the morning....

Well, I've still got whatever this thing that I've got BUT today I'm staying home all day and going to work on myself.

Amazingly when I decided this I felt worse this morning. My usual symptoms have been feeling somewhat ok in the mornings (having the energy to do things, go places) and then by late afternoon, I start to feel runned down and by almost bedtime I'm just positive that I have strep throat. My glands are swollen and painful ... but no fever. BUT then I wake in to morning feeling better ????!?!?!

I don't know ... I'm just going to stay in today and relax.

The Swine has landed

After a week of e-mails from the university and hearing all the news coverage . Telling the public (aka students and Parents) that IT was spreading and they weren't even to go to the Health Center if they had flu like symptoms they were just to go home! I knew it would be a miracle if he didn't get IT, and no it hasn't been confirmed but the nurse said IT didn't need to be confirmed she was sure IT was IT.
He's home until he goes 24 hours without a fever!
Which should be 3 days.
FYI ~ flu like symptoms are a cold with fever.

it all makes sense ....

During the winter months G has a large amount of ear wax. At times spilling out! very much different from all the rest of our family, OK, I know this is enough detail on this gross subject!

This morning I was flipping through a magazine and it told about ear wax in kids .... trying to break the cycle of mother's with Q~tips I'm sure!

AND here is the kicker ......

Ear Wax is pushed out when the jaw moves (TALKING)! For those of you who know G, doesn't that just make you laugh!??? I should be glad he doesn't have a river coming out of this ear 24/7!

Doctor Mom

I've diagnosed W .... I don't think we would have ever known he had mono if he hadn't gotten something else, or I guess until he told me about the lumps in the glands.

I now think he got something else (of which I currently have and it's the pits) and we discovered he had mono, of which (other than the lumps in the his glands) he's not had any symptoms for! I'm sorry for those of you that have had Mono and had ALL the symptoms.

Mom I hope my wife can cook as good as you!

Isn't that just gold to a mother's ears? So much that I'll say it again, "Mom, I hope my wife can cook as good as you." Ok, I know what you're thinking .... the kid (W) hasn't eaten anything REAL food for a few days and this morning I made Blueberry pancakes. I'm no fool, I knew what I was doing, just lying in wait ready to make my mark.... and blueberry pancakes were the mark!

Taking the first train out of here.....

When I asked W if he was going to G swim meet, he quickly answered yes. When I asked him if he wanted one of his friends to bring him just in time or did he want to go with us an hour early, he wanted to leave with us! I was surprised at both, but I think he just wanted on the first train heading out of here! He did a light work out before the meet.
He said it hurt to blow out his cheeks.
I had warned him about 'him' not driving when on his pain meds and ride to the swim meet proved me right. I was glad.

The day before the swim meet was almost painful for all of us. G's excitement was over the top. He was the clock watcher all day He finally settled down for a lengthly game of Monopoly Junior.

He did very well for his frist swim meet.
He's only had 8 practices (he was out all last week due to camp)

Nothing Like Kicking him when he's down

Or is he down?? W had his wisdom teeth out this morning. He had some trouble with not eating (too much acid in his stomach) or the anesthesia. I (and the doctor) didn't know which it was but we did know he was throwing up whenever he sat up!

We finally got him home and he's resting quiet well, with the remote in hand.

Still I think I have more mono symptoms than he does.

Mono Update

I have to say that I don't see much difference in W's sleep pattern now than all last summer!
Just How Can Be?

I keep saying that "I don't think you're sick"
W's answer, "you saw the test strip"

I don't think he has a bad case of Mono or is almost over it???

Sympathy is over .... the yard needs to be mowed!

Missed day Camp day #3

SIGH!..... if it's not one boy it's the other!

Yesterday after a long day at camp, I come home to W telling me about his swollen glands. At that first moment I didn't care to hear about anything other than, "mom, you look tired and wouldn't you love to sit down." AND certainly not "Mom, I've got all these lumps in my glands"

I dutifully felt all the lumps and heard about how he'd been on the internet researching it. Then when I didn't look more paniced about the situation he told me that "you know these could be cancer!"

Heavy SIGH!

I showered, I laid down, I decided that maybe I needed to think about this..... I called my nurse friend (she wasn't home)..... I thought he's 18, I could just tell him where to go to have this looked at and I could still go to day camp (Remember, there isn't anyone else to go in my place, or at least not one that is easily found especially the night before).

My nurse friend calls back .... if he's got that many and they're all over his body, he's got something and needs to be seen. I know you're thinking "why couldn't hubby just take him" ~ hubby was on the he needs to go to the ER bandwagon (not that moment but in the morning) .... cha ching x2!!

Long story short ... Mono! he's had the lumps for a few days (he found them while he was at the State Track Meet) but only has gotten tired since yesterday. 2 to 4 weeks and he'll be good as new.

AND I missed good cool weather at camp, I missed tie-dye, BBguns, bows and arrows.... boy W sure has fine timing! Little G came home with great stories!

Our kindly visitor "Sickness"

Yes, our kindly ever patient visitor sickness it still here. W is back at school, I've in the depths of visiting with it now, hubby is fighting off (and living in denial) the ever persistent visitor, and Little G is just beginning to noticing it's here!

W thinks the thing that kicked his nasty cold was 14 hours of sleeping! Well, I don't have that luxury, I've been spreading the sickness all over! I finally did clear my calendar and managed to stay home all of today, sleeping about 4 hours of it. I'm hoping to see a better day tomorrow. Hubby is just beginning to sneeze, and little G has that tight little cough that starts it all.

Little G's 'game day' at school is tomorrow so he's very eager to NOT be sick tomorrow, but from my experience he should make it though tomorrow but getting worst through the day. Just in time to miss all the sporting events of Saturday!

The "sickness" has arrived

BUT it's not as bad as it could be. W went home from church with a constantly running nose and slept the rest of the day. I laid down to take a nap and woke up with a tight chest by the time I went to bed I had the cough to go with it! The other 2 seem to be fine. W stayed home from school yesterday to sleep, continue to sneeze and wipe his nose.
W predicted that the full blown cold would be in swing Tuesday morning and I think he's right.
I've been taking Airbourne for the past week in anticipation of this and I'm fairly good at this point. I know I have a cold but it's not as bad as W. Crossing my fingers that it stays that way.
AT LEAST it's not the high fever pukey thing that is going around!

Are there warnings on popcorn?

Thursday night......

I'm sure there are warnings on microwave popcorn, but I don't think they include anything that could result in a scratched cornea.

G was struggling to opening his unpopped popcorn, when the plastic wrap suddenly gave way. The plastic wrap somehow scratched his cornea!

Just How Can this Be?

I don't know but it landed us in Urgent Care for a few hours. The scratch is large enough to be seen without the dye, but it should heal with 24-48 hours.

We have some lovely ointment to put in it 4 times a day. When G and I were waiting for the Rx I told him that I'd get him an eye patch tomorrow, this excited him! but then he figured out that tomorrow was Friday and everything will ALL over before Monday.......no, wearing the eye patch to school! He was right back to his scratchy painful eye but now disappointed! All in true G fashion!

UPDATE ~ Friday morning ~ as some of you may know and others not.... G gets up EVERY morning at 7am. Rain, Shine, darkness, or disregard to what time he went to bed! This morning was no different. We left home last night around 9 (he'd just gone to sleep ~ FYI the scratch happened around 7:30 but he didn't say anything about blurring vision until bed time. Didn't want any of you thinking he was having popcorn at 9pm) and left urgent care around 11:10pm. G went to sleep after a while in the car.... but woke up to walk to his bed at midnight. This morning he's up (and cranky) at 7:05. The actual scratch and that pain maybe the least of my worries today! Let's review.... he's complained that he has to stay home, he's complained that we had to put medicine in, he's complained that he'll miss the 'fun' day in PE....
Goodness this day is going to be long.
